How much disk space do I need?

As a general rule, a single website page should not be more than about 100KB, including all images. Remember that most people who visit your site will be using a modem to connect to the Internet and if your pages take too long to load, they will simply leave and go to another site. Whilst there are, obviously, exceptions for sites aimed specifically at broadband users, most web sites do not fit into this niche category.

Working with 100KB as guide, a 10-page website would require approximately 1MB of disk space. INCO's Starter Package offers 5MB of disk space and would be suitable for an average 40 to 50 page website.

How much data transfer will my site need?

It is always nice to believe that as soon as you build a new website and launch it, you will have a million visitors a day. In practice, we find that a data transfer allowance between 5 and 10 times your disk space allowance is more than enough for the majority of sites. The allowances in our hosting packages are designed to provide sufficient data transfer for the vast majority of our clients.

If you do have a very busy site that requires more data transfer than our standard packages allow, we can provide a package customised to your individual needs.

What is the difference between bandwidth and data transfer allowances?

This is a very good question as marketing information often uses the two terms to mean the same and different things. Both terms measure the amount of data transferred over a given period of time, so they are, technically, the same!

However, it is conventional for bandwidth to mean how much data can be transferred at the same time, while data transfer allowances are usually a measure of how much data can be transferred over a longer period, e.g. a month.

Do INCO's hosting packages include logs or traffic reports?

Yes, with the exception of our Starter package, our hosting packages include traffic statistics, a graphical analysis of your log files. These are available as a page within your web space, which you may keep private or publish to the world - the choice is yours. (The disk space that these pages use does not count against your disk space allowance.) When you open an account, we simply ask that you tell us whether or not you want the statistics and whether you want them to be password protected or not.
